I’m finally back from vacation! As fun as it was, there simply is no place like home and I’m glad to be back in the swing of the every day and back to updating the site. Now that I am back in the saddle, I thought it would be neat to share some owl related pictures from my trip. This year I decided to go to Orlando, Fl. and fulfill a lifelong dream of going to Disney World. It only took me 26 years!
While in the area, it was hard to pass up the opportunity to check out the new ‘Wizarding World of Harry Potter‘ attraction at Universal Studios Islands Of Adventure. Any owl fan has got to be familiar with the lore of Harry Potter and his trusted owl Hedwig. The shopping village from the books, Hogsmeade, was seemingly transplanted from the fictional world and placed in the middle of a Universal theme park. I was shocked at the amount of detail squeezed into every corner of the attraction. From the moving owls in the rafters, moaning Myrtle in the bathrooms, the hippogriff outside of Hagrid’s hut, to the screaming mandrakes in the windows- every inch of the area was decked out with Potter references that would make any fan smile ear to ear. The ride built into Hogwarts castle was absolutely brilliant, and was quite possibly the best thing I did on my vacation. My favorite shop was naturally The Owl Post, which was made to filter visitors from Olivander’s Wand Shop into yet another store where guests can empty their wallets on Potter and owl merchandise. This store was fashioned to look like a post office from the books and was decked out with all the things one would need to send an official Owl Post letter including Hogwarts parchment paper, owl quill pens, real postage from ‘The Owl Post’, as well as tons of owl merch from the Potter universe. I had such a blast on my trip, and if you’re ever in the Orlando area you have to check this out. It’s an absolute treat for any Potter or owl fan.
Again, glad to be back!
